(2) Geological survey
SMEDI Shizhen Geotechnical Engineering Co., Ltd. has conducted a geotechnical
test on the soil of Monitoring Well III-5 of the Old Port Landfill, with the results as
shown in Table 5.112. It can be seen from the table that the vertical and horizontal
osmotic coefficient K ranges from 10
−4 cm/s to 10
−5 cm/s from the surface to −5 m
and is 10
−7 cm/s from −5 to −22 m.
3. Assessment of environmental conditions of groundwater in the landfill
Groundwater monitoring points are arranged around the disposal site, to monitor 21
factors including hexavalent chromium, cyanide, ammonia nitrogen, pH, volatile
phenol, total hardness, total dissolved solids, chloride ion, permanganate index,
fluoride, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, arsenic, cadmium, copper, iron, manganese, lead, zinc, mercury and fecal coliforms, as required by the Quality Standard
for Groundwater (GB/T14848-93).
The following assessment results were obtained in the Old Port Waste Disposal
Site and the surrounding groundwater bodies: the pH, hexavalent chromium,
fluoride and mercury all meet Class I standard; cyanide meets Class II standard;
heavy metal ions (cadmium, copper, lead and zinc) and nitrate nitrogen meet Class
I–III standards; and heavy metal ions (iron, manganese), volatile phenol, dissolved
solids, chloride ion, permanganate index and total hardness and other monitored
factors basically meet Class IV–V standards.
4. Source strength assessment of the landfill
(1) Pollution source hazard classification
① Indexes, weights and scores
According to the assessment method in Sect. 3.2.2.1, the landfill capacity (Y1) is
m
3 , scoring mark(s); the filling duration (Y2) is 33 years, scoring 1; the percolate
output (Y3) is 150−200 m
3 /d, scoring 8; the landfilled waste (Y4) is dominated by
domestic refuses, scoring 8; the anti-seepage measures (Y5) involve the HDPE
impermeable membrane installed at the bottom and sides of the landfill cell, scoring
