2. Landfill investigation
(1) Overview of the landfill
The domestic waste landfill was built at the end of 1985, and has been built with
five phases of landfilling areas up to now, playing an important role in the treatment
of the municipal solid wastes of Shanghai and assuring its safety management. The
landfill, with a regular shape and flat terrain, has a daily average waste disposal
capacity of 8000 tons/day and a design domestic waste storage capacity of 20
million tons. Meanwhile, the Old Port landfill is provided with the groundwater
control system, the percolate drainage system and the gas drainage system, with the
