The area where the site is located has scarce surface water resources. Ciwei River
is about 4 km to the northeast of the site and Xiaoqing River is about 5 km to the
east. Both of them are seasonal rivers with small stream flows. Dashi River is about
9 km to the southwest of the site. Daningxi main canal is located 500 m to the
northeast of the site. It has been destroyed, with only an abandoned dried-up
channel over 8 m wide left. In the north of the site, there is an abandoned
brick-making borrow pit with an area of about 900 mu, a depth of 8–14 m and an
average depth of about 10 m. To the east of the pit, there is a reed pond. To the west
of the pit, there is a small fish pond, with waterlogging at the bottom, which is
mainly accumulated rainwater. The water in some deep pits is the exposed shallow
groundwater.
④ Nearby sensitive targets
There are three natural villages about 800 m away from the site, including Liuzhang
Village to the northeast of the site, Xiaogaoshe Village to the southeast and
Jiangcun Village to the east. They have a total population of about 1000. To the
south of the site, there are Beijing Saint-Gobain Vetrotex Fiberglass Co., Ltd. and
the Infrastructure Department of Yaxin Special Building Materials Co., Ltd. separated by the road. To the east side of the site, there is a brick kiln abandoned by
local villagers. Beijing-Guangzhou Railway is about 800 m away to the west of the
site. In addition to the above factories around the site, abandoned kilns are located
in the north and south, with an area of about 900 mu each. To the west of Daningxi
main canal, there is low-lying nursery forest. To the east, the area is dominated by
brick kilns, with a small part of farmland, where corn and wheat are the main crops.
2. Investigation of the hazardous waste disposal site
(1) Distribution of main disposal units
The typical site consists of four major parts according to the principle of functional
division: the front area of the plant, the production area, the security landfill site and
the utilities area.
The front area of the plant is located at the southwest corner of the plant area,
with the trunk road of the industrial area located to the south. It mainly includes the
