The 2nd layer of groundwater occurs in the fine sand layer ④ with an elevation
below about 3.21–4.63 m and above about 1.26–1.52 m. It is classified as confined
water and is continuously and stably distributed in the landfill area.
The 3rd layer of groundwater occurs in the fine sand layer ⑥ below the elevation of −2.44 m. It is classified as confined water and is not yet exposed in the
current investigation.
Figure 5.54 is the plot of dynamic water level of the 1st layer of groundwater in
the region in the past nine years. As can be seen from the figure, there has been little
fluctuation of groundwater level in the recent nearly 9 years. The general annual
dynamic pattern is: relative higher level in November to April the following year
and relatively lower level from May to July, usually with a variation amplitude of
about 0.38–1.27 m. The groundwater level change generally follows the seasonal
variation pattern of regional atmospheric precipitation with some delay.
The natural dynamics of the 1st layer of groundwater at the greater region of the
landfill site is classified as infiltration-runoff-evaporation type. Water makeup is
mainly supplied by infiltration of atmospheric precipitation and surface water and
the main discharge modes are evaporation, lateral runoff and vertical crossflow.
④ Physical and chemical characteristics of waste soil
a. Physical characteristics of waste soil
A total of 3 domestic waste samples were collected for component detection and
moisture content and particle analysis tests. The test results are shown in Table 5.85
and the particle analysis test results are shown in Table 5.86.
As can be seen from Table 5.86, among the 3 domestic refuse waste soil samples, 0.00–23.75% of the components have a particle size greater than 60 mm;
8.49–23.11% between 60 and 40 mm; 24.98–28.18% between 40 and 20 mm;
17.38–21.64% between 20 and 10 mm; and 22.19–42.87% below 10 mm.
