HERA model in accordance with the Technical Guidelines for Risk Assessment of
Contaminated Sites (HJ25.3–2014) (Table 5.63).
As shown in Table 5.63, the target levels for chlorine and fluorine are calculated,
based on non-cancer hazard, to be 1.66 mg/L and 0.663 mg/L respectively.
Case 6 Groundwater pollution investigation, source intensity evaluation and risk
assessment of an MSWLF in Sichuan Province
This MSWLF is a valley-type sanitary landfill located in Sichuan Province. It
covers an area of about 46,400 m
2 and has a storage capacity of 599,000 m
3 and a
service life of about 17 years. The leachate, reaching 60 m
3 /d, is treated using the
back-spraying technology through anaerobic tank, membrane bioreactor
(MBR) and nanofiltration. Groundwater in the hydrogeological units of the landfill
serves as dispersed sources for water supply.
(1) Natural environment and hydrogeology
(a) Topography
The landfill sits on the second terrace of the east bank of the Anning River in central
Sichuan Province. The Shenxian Ditch, where the landfill is located, flows to the
Anning River from the west to the east, and is surrounded by V-shaped mountains
in the north, south and west. The surface stratum is a loose layer of gravel and the
underlying stratum is comprised of diorite and the Middle and Lower Pleistocene
ice-borne sediment. High in the east than the west, there is a longitudinal slope of 3°
and a cross slope of 30°–55°. The topographic map of the survey area is as shown
in Fig. 5.25.
(b) Lithology
According to the local hydrogeological data, the main exposed strata of the Funing
Landfill are diorite (d) and the Middle and Lower Pleistocene ice-borne sediment
(Q
1−2 fg
l ), detailed as follows:
• Middle and Lower Pleistocene ice-borne sediment (Q
1−2 fg
l )
The Middle and Lower Pleistocene ice-borne layer is mainly composed of grayish
yellow, grayish purple and brownish red ice-borne sediment.
