Affected by the flow of the Jinma River, groundwater near the site is discharged, in
the northwest-southeast direction, to the Jinma River (Figs. 5.20 and 5.21).
(2) Landfill overview and status quo
The landfill is located on the side of Jinma River in Fengle Village, Xudu
Township, Shiyang Town, Dujiangyan City (which flows in the north-south
direction into the Nanhe River). This simple shoal-type landfill is equipped with a
refuse dam along the Jinma River. It approximately covers an area of 46,667 m
2
and has s storage capacity of 400,000 m
3 . It was put into operation in 1995 and
closed in 2013, with stockpiling stopped in 2010. As no leachate treatment facilities
were installed, the leachate was discharged directly. A total of five groundwater
monitoring wells were set up, in the upstream, side and downstream of the landfill.
The operation before the landfill is closed is as shown in Fig. 5.22.
(3) Background investigation of groundwater environment
(a) Groundwater exploitation and utilization
According to the field investigation, the landfill is adjacent to the Jinma River in the
east, and 194–691 m from the landfill, there are 83 households from Fengle Village.
Wells (manually operated steel pipe wells) were drilled to draw groundwater for
production and domestic use. The drilling depth is about 10–15 m, and the depth to
water table is about 2.5–4.0 m. Groundwater is used for dispersed water supply
(Fig. 5.23).
