In specific, ZK1 samples meet the Grade V standards for pH, chromaticity and
turbidity; ZK2 for chromaticity, turbidity, chloride, ammonia nitrogen and permanganate index; ZK3 for pH and turbidity; ZK4, ZK5 and ZK6 for chromaticity
and turbidity; MJ8 for turbidity. The remaining two sample groups are classified
into Grade IV, of which BJ7 meets the Grade IV standard for pH and MJ9 for pH
and turbidity. In general, the groundwater quality of the Lushiwan Landfill is poor,
which is worthy great attention.
(c) Evaluation of groundwater pollution
• Evaluation factors and method
The evaluation of groundwater pollution examines the degree of groundwater
contamination associated with human activities. Without considering the background values, the evaluation results can directly reflect the human influence on
groundwater contamination by comparing with the control values provided by the
Quality Standards for Groundwater and the Environmental Quality Standards for
Surface Water. They also reflect the extent to which chemical water quality index
exceeds the internationally recognized hazard level. Pollution index P ki is introduced for the evaluation of groundwater pollution.
P ki ¼
C ki À C 0
C III
Wherein P ki represents the pollution index of sample k in terms of indicator i; C ki
denotes the test result of sample k for indicator i; C 0 is the control value for
inorganic component indicator i of sample k, and for organic components and other
primordial low-content components in groundwater, the background value is calculated as zero;C III is the standard value for inorganic component indicator i of
sample k.
The control values are used as the benchmark. The data sources include the
background values identified at monitoring wells, earliest analysis data of the area,
and statistical results of the supplementary survey of the area with no obvious
pollution sources. Priority is given to the background values identified at monitoring wells. The criteria for rating pollution index are as shown in Table 5.27, 5.28
and 5.29.
