3 Design of Household Appliances Considering Remanufacturing …

Each evaluation was performed at the component level that constitutes the product.
In order to derive the parts to be improved, the parts that are equal to or less than
the average score of each evaluation item were selected as the first improvement
target parts for convenience of remanufacturing. After that, the parts to be improved
were finally compiled by combining the improvement potential of each part and the
expected effect of improvement.
3.2.2 Strategy and Design to Improve Ease
of Remanufacturing
The first step to improve remanufacturing convenience is to derive a conceptual
improvement strategy based on the failure factors of the parts to be improved. In this
study, a conceptual improvement strategy was developed by applying the remanufacturing convenience design technique. As shown in Table 3.3, the remanufacturing
convenience design method suggests criteria and solutions for remediation strategies
for each failure cause in remanufacturing process. These were used to find basic
solutions to improve remanufacture convenience for each problem. The second step
is the detailed step of the conceptual improvement strategy, which are the detailed
design of the improvement strategy and the development of the prototype. At this
stage, the detailed design and prototype development were repeatedly carried out
to formulate the improvement strategy, to identify the cause of the failure by each
product development field, and to find a solution.
3.3 Results
3.3.1 Improvement of Remanufacturing Convenience
in Decomposition Process and Assembly Process
(1) Derivation of parts to be improved by evaluating ease of remanufacturing of
products
Component assembly in the production process of the product is closely related
to the convenience of disassembly and assembly for the remanufacturing of the
recovered product after use. In particular, if a non-destructive fastening method is
selected, re-manufacturing itself is not possible, or a relatively large amount of time
and resources are required for remanufacturing. Easy access way to the fastening
area is a prerequisite for disassembly and reassembly, the fastening area should be
noticeable, and the tool must be easily accessible at the same time.
As a result of evaluation of the fastening method of the target product, the average
score of the product was 18.6/ 20.0. For the purpose of improving the fastening
