made to promote the sustainable aspect of glamping, clearly introducing sustainable
practices, and using this to advertise the product and cause others to follow suit. We
conclude that with the introduction of this new concept, it was possible to renew
traditional camping, and it consequently reached a quite a different segment of the
tourist population. In addition, the economic development of regions where glamping
is practised has also been positive. The investment in sustainable infrastructures and
materials allows glamping to improve its position in the market and enhance the
notoriety of each accommodation.
The evolution of tourism includes sustainable tourism and ecotourism, the same
way that evolution in marketing includes digital marketing. The marketing of sustainable tourism draws attention through its appealing digital content for the tourist. It
promotes engagement, generating a larger bond between hotel units and the tourists,
fostering and enhancing a closer proximity between guests and the company. There
is also a focus on the rising importance of a nurtured destination image, vital for the
success of any tourist destination in the different types of tourism, with special relevance given to ecotourism. Even though ecotourism has been practiced for 30 years,
in Portugal it is a theme that coincides with the awareness of sustainability in which
many projects are still in a stage of exploration of the touristic product. In the future,
we propose an accurate survey of the main ecotourism hotel units and the study of
the hardships faced by establishments in their efforts to create sustainable tourism,
in order to try to identify the most exact changes to improve performance and satisfaction. In summary, glamping appeared as an innovation of traditional camping,
but quickly developed and established itself as a market with growth potential and
a sustainable aspect, which is a very common theme these days. This means that it
meets the needs of consumers and has a competitive advantage in the current market.
