research work was to find out the role of rural tourism in the sustainable development
in the study area. The study found that Jyotisar is a very important destination for
rural tourism, and it plays a significant role in the sustainable development of the
area.
Rural tourism in Jyotisar has been found to increase business, income and employment and has been seen to assist with social, economic and ecological development. However, the study also noted some problems associated with rural tourism
at Jyotisar, such as the seasonal character of rural tourism, shortage of financial and
labour resources, etc. Besides this, the study also noted a lack of local community
participation in sustainable tourism development planning and management in the
rural tourism destination. Therefore, some regulations should be framed to provide
a supportive environment for participation for all stakeholders. More importantly,
the government should provide financial support to rural tourism businesses such as
accommodations, restaurants, art shops, transportation and guide services, etc. There
is a need to educate local people in order to conserve local traditions and ways of life
in terms of traditional dress, rituals, art, handicraft, and foods. Therefore, in order
to develop rural tourism in an effective and sustainable manner, the study identified
and measured a basis of recommendations for sustainable tourism development. In
a nutshell, for the development of sustainable tourism in a specific destination, the
tourism activities should be carried out regarding the principles of sustainability. The
present study had some limitations, such as it focused only on the local community
and stakeholders for determining sustainable rural tourism development in the area.
Due to shortage of time, the researchers did not consider tourists in the present study.
Further study in the relevant area needs to incorporate the multifaceted aspects related
to rural tourism and sustainable development.
