36. The so-called Doctors’ plot was an anti-Semitic campaign in late Stalinism. In
1952–1953, a group of predominantly Jewish doctors from Moscow were accused
of conspiring to assassinate Soviet leaders. This resulted in numerous arrests
and executions of doctors, among them both, Jews and non-Jews. After Stalin’s
death in 1953, the case was dropped. The new Soviet government declared that
