Chapter 17 “Water Problems in Urban Areas” was written by Tadeusz Ciupa and
Roman Suligowski from Division of Environmental Research and Geo-Information,
Institute of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Jan Kochanowski University in
Kielce. The chapter presents selected issues of the water environment of Polish cities.
Attention was paid to the causes of periodic excess rainwater and surface runoff, with
particular emphasis on enclosed areas. The impact of these areas on the dynamics
and size of flood waves was demonstrated, and consequently on flood risk.
The last chapter in this part “The Multidimensional Aspect of Water Resources
Management in Metropolitan Areas (a Case Study of the Pozna ´
n Metropolis)”
was written by Renata Graf from Department of Hydrology and Water Management, Institute of Physical Geography and Environmental Planning, Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna´ n, Institute of Physical Geography and Environmental
Planning and Krzysztof Pyszny from EnviMap in Pozna´ n. This chapter presents and
discusses the model of integrated water resources management, including multi-level
e-management and management of the “catchment area.” The authors discuss the
need to develop a new water resource management model in Poland, taking into
account the principle of a common area and water policy in metropolitan areas.
The last part of the book entitled “Conclusions” was written by the editors.
Chapter 19 contains “Updates, Conclusions, and Recommendations for “Quality
of Water Resources in Poland”” and closes the volume of the book with the main
conclusions and recommendations of the volume, as well as an update of some
arrangements.

source of knowledge and the latest findings in the field of Quality of Water Resources
