3.2 Method
The harvesting and drying process was conducted as follows:
When Spirulina platensis reached sufficient growth, the culture exhibited floating cells on the
surface of the medium and/or a dark blue-green colour, indicating a high concentration due to
continuous stirring.
Initially, the Spirulina platensis culture was gathered using manual pipetting and transferred
into microcentrifuge tubes. Each tube was filled to a consistent level, leaving enough space to
close the cap securely.
The microcentrifuge was balanced by placing tubes of equal weight on opposite sides. Then,
the centrifuge was set to the correct speed and time. For Spirulina, usual settings are
approximately 4,000 RPM for 5-10 minutes.
