MATERIALS AND METHODS
This study aims to produce bioplastic from Spirulina platensis powder. The process involves
cultivating the microalgae, extracting PHB crystals to demonstrate its bioplastic potential, and
then harvesting and drying the microalgae to create bioplastic films.
1 Cultivation
1.1 Materials
• 2L of spirulina platensis living culture
• 4 jars (1L)
• 3 lab beakers (2L)
• Bucket (20 L)
• Aquarium (100 × 40 × 30 cm)
• Culture mediums (K marine, LMK)
• Nutrient medium (K marine)
• Oxygen pump and tubes
• White light lamp
• Thermal resistance
• PH meter
• Thermometer
• Analytical balance
• Manual + graduated pipettes
• Laboratory spatula
• Chemical reactives: NaOH, HCl
1.2 Methods
Spirulina platensis living culture was purchased from SARL K marine and brought to the
aquaculture laboratory at ENSSMAL along with its culture and nutrient medium.
