Case Study 5.2: Green health
Green Nephrology Programme Green Nephrology is a program in
the United Kingdom that seeks to enhance the sustainability of kidney
care.Established by the Campaign for Greener Healthcare, it has the aim
of developing climate change mitigation strategies on issues associated with
kidney care (Dunbar-Reid and Buikstra 2017). The program also seeks to
align sustainable healthcare provision with better quality care at affordable
costs. Such programs can be beneficial for the medical community to ensure
that costs, the environment, and provision of healthcare to society are
integrated sustainably.
Korea Society for Green Hospitals Launched in June 2013, Korea Society
for Green Hospitals is an organization geared towards low-carbon growth
within medical practices to minimize the ecological effects of healthcare
institutions in South Korea (Liu et al. 2017). The program also focuses
on encouraging Korean hospitals to collaborate with global Green hospital
networks. Heralded as an implementer of Green strategies, the program plays
a crucial role in environmental stewardship. Such programs can be rolled out
in various nations to foster Green health.
