Rack and String Culture
Two rows of tar coated bamboo poles are planted vertically at the bottom (substratum) and a rack is prepared by fixing bamboo poles or thin rods crosswise on top.
Galvanized wires or tar-painted units are hung vertically from the crossbars, to
which seedlings adhere. About 5 to 10 pieces of empty shells are hung at intervals
of about 15–20 cm on 1.5 m string and 20 such strings are hung vertically for every
3.3 m
2
area (Fig. 9.12).
Rack and Tray Culture
In this culture method, racks are prepared similarly as in previous method and culture trays are hung vertically instead of strings (Fig. 9.13).
