As the name of the chapter goes, it is necessary to induce few alternative livelihoods based on cutting edge research technology in the matrix of livelihoods in Indian
Sundarbans. These include polyculture of commercially important fishes, oyster culture, seaweed culture, preparation of fish feed from mangrove associate flora, preparation of food items from coastal floral species etc. Few such ‘beyond the traditional
box’ livelihoods are discussed here separately, although they are still in embryo stage.
