We evaluated the above ground biomass (AGB) and below ground biomass (BGB)
of Porteresia coarctata for 12 consecutive years (2001–2012) along the Hooghly
estuary (in the north east coast) and Mandovi estuary (in the west coast) of India.
Yearly samplings for biomass estimation of P. coarctata were carried out at ebb
during every March from 2001 to 2012 in the intertidal mudflats along the Hooghly
and Mandovi estuary. A perpendicular belt (~50 m width) transect to the shore was
laid on the Porteresia beds from low tide to high tide mark at each station. The
