2.3.1.3 DOM
The DOM in the effluent of fermentation obtained from the anaerobic fermentation process of two stages was composed of lots of fluorescence compounds, and
fluorescence peaks of different compounds were probably overlapped. PARAFAC
analysis is a multivariate chemometric method capable of decomposing EEM spectra
into various fluorescent components independent of each other. It offers the accurate
quantitative information on the component distribution in the DOM fractions. The
researchers identified three components, marked 1, 2, and 3, from the EEM spectra by the FEMS-PFA and in Fig. 2.19 the fluorescence intensity is expressed as
