14.2 Leaving Your Slide Deck Behind
You might be asked to leave a copy of your slide deck behind. However, your slide
deck is likely to have been optimized for an oral presentation, not towards a standalone document to be consulted in your absence. To address this, create a distinct
version of your presentation in PDF format, specifically aimed for leaving behind as
a document:
• PDF files do not support animations (except Type 1 animations, Sect. 3.2). Make
sure that your animated items do not cause interferences or other issues in your
PDF file
• If you have Type 1 animations (animations appearing on multiple slides), consider only showing the final result
• Movies will appear as images in your PDF (first frame from the video). Consider
replacing this image by the most relevant frame in your video, and make it clear
this originally was a video
• If a video was critical, turn it into a series of still images (Sect. 5.3)
• Remove any slides too sensitive to leave behind
• Consider adding slides to include information only provided verbally during
your talk
• Consider adding text, since this document is no longer meant to be provided as
an oral presentation, but rather aimed at being read
