structure anomaly is seen during excess rainfall years. Maximum strength is seen
north of 35°N at about 300 hPa. This is due to formation of a strong westerly trough
in the regions of maximum precipitation causing a zone of convergence. Differences
in vertical velocity (w, cm/s) and specific humidity (q, g/kg) between excess and
