2.4.3 Dynamic Failure Pattern
The typical failure patterns of UHPCC specimens at different strain rates are shown
in Fig. 2.10. It can be observed that the failure patterns were axial splitting and the
damage degree increased with the rising of strain rate. At the lowest strain rate, the
plain UHPCC (N-0) specimens broke into small pieces and the UHPCC specimens
with hooked steel fibers only had several visible cracks, while the UHPCC specimens
with micro-straight steel fibers almost remained intact. With the strain rate further
increasing, the damage of UHPCC specimens became more severe and specimens
crushed into smaller fragments.
