(3) Ballistic efficiency factor
Generally, the ballistic performance of a given plate with the thickness of T t and
density of ρ t can be assessed quantitatively by the dimensionless thickness efficiency
factor E t and mass efficiency factor E m as given in Eqs. (7.1) and (7.2) (Madhu et al.
2005), respectively. E t is defined as the ratio of the penetration depth reduced by the
composite target to the thickness of the test plate. E m is defined as the ratio of the
areal density reduced by the composite target to the areal density of the test plate.
