main aerodynamics experimental base, built a complete set of equipment
from low speed to high supersonic speed, and established a backbone team
of aerodynamics research. He was one of the main pioneers in this field,
and had made outstanding contributions to the development of China’s
aerospace industry. He obtained the dissipation law of turbulence in the
study of the basic characteristics of turbulence in fluid mechanics. He had
made outstanding achievements in the research of shock diffraction, thermal
protection theory of hypersonic reentry body, and the mechanism and control
of vortex formation. He carried out the aerodynamic research of missiles,
rockets, and reentry vehicles for a long time. He had made important contributions to the design and construction of large wind tunnels, the design and
construction of ramjet test beds, the aerodynamic research and test of launch
vehicles, the aerodynamics dominated by unsteady vortices, and computational fluid dynamics. Zhuang Fenggan had carried out extensive research
work in many fields of aerodynamics, and had published more than 60
academic papers and reports, including aerodynamic theory, experiment, and
testing technology. He was one of the main technical leaders in the construction of aerodynamics research and test base in China. These bases were built
in the 1950s and 1970s, respectively, when there was a lack of international
assistance and information, and there were many economic and technical
difficulties. During his tenure as the leader of Beijing Aerodynamics Research
Institute, China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center and the
