8.45 Guo Yonghuai (1909–1968)
Guo Yonghuai (1909–1968) is a famous applied mathematician, aerodynamicist and one of the founders of Chinese modern mechanics. Guo Yonghuai
had been engaged in Aeronautical Engineering Research for a long time,
discovered the upper critical Mach number, developed the deformation coordinate method in the singular perturbation theory, which is internationally
recognized PLK method, advocated the research of hypersonic flow, electromagnetic fluid mechanics and explosion mechanics in China, and trained
many excellent mechanical talents. He had taken on the leading role in the
scientific research of national defense and made important contributions to
the development of missiles, nuclear bombs, and satellites. He led and organized the research work of detonation mechanics, high pressure equation
of state, aerodynamics, flight mechanics, structural mechanics and weapon
environment experiment science, solved a series of major problems, and was
the only scientist who made great contributions to the experimental work
