The most important source of pollution of surface and underground waters is the
household, especially the rural ones. The lack of septic tanks and the storage of
rubbish at the edge of the villages make the water supply network seriously affected.
It is necessary to urge the generalized water supply of all villages, to conduct sewage
disposal and to educate the population. Active management is also imperative for
mitigating and collecting garbage in recreational areas. Random garbage is often
found behind large dams and water cleaning involves additional financial efforts
(Fig. 2.16).
