– limestone, dolomite, sandstone and conglomerates on extended areas from Central
and Nordic part of Codru-Moma Mountains, the western half of P˘ adurea Craiului
Mountains and North-Western side of Bihor Mountains;
– limestones, sandstones and conglomerates in extended areas, exclusively related to
the extreme East of P˘ adurea Craiului Mountains and in the North and Northwest
sides of Vl˘ adeasa Mountains; they appear like islands in the West and extreme
South of P˘ adurea Craiului Mountains;
– sandstones, conglomerates, marls and limestones extended in the Central-Eastern
part of P˘ adurea Craiului Mountains and less extensive but significant in the SouthEastern of Vl˘ adeasa Mountains (Some¸ sul Cald springs), the western half of the
central ridge of Trasc˘ au and sporadically in a central area of Metaliferi Mountains;
– limestones and dolomites from metamorphic formations on extended areas in the
South and West of Trascau Mountains, as well as on less extensive areas in the
northern half of the central ridge of the same mountain group;
– the largest area occupied by local aquifers or discontinuous drainage springs is
found on almost the entire surface of Trasc˘ au Mountains, in the eastern half of
Metaliferi Mountains, in the eastern half of Zarandului Mountains, in the southern
half of Bihor and on smaller surfaces in the South of Metaliferi Mountains.
Underground captive aquifers developed in marl, panonian clays and sands can
be found in the South-West of Mese¸ s Mountains, South-East of Plopis , Mountains
and in the western extremities and especially on South-West part of Bihor Mountains.
However, appreciable landscape surfaces in the Apuseni Mountains are less represented by groundwater (practically without underground aquifers), due to their
quasi-waterproof rocks’ composition:
– clays, marl, tuffs and derived sands are present in the Southern Mese¸ s Mountains
and the Southeast side of Plopis , Mountains, as well as isolated spots in the SouthEast of Metaliferi Mountains;
– the red and striped clays, occur especially at the periphery of Transylvanian Basin,
and can be found in the Southwest of Alma¸ s-Agrij Depression, South part of
Huedin Depression, North (the R⸠sca Basin) and North-East sides of Gil˘ au Mountains, and on some small areas in Northwest part of Trasc˘ au Mountains;
– clayey shale, clays, sandstones, abundant conglomerates in the East and Northwest
sides of Codru-Moma Mountains, as well as at the eastern periphery of Beiu¸ s
Depression;
– the crystalline shale present on particularly extensive surfaces in Muntele Mare, as
well as in Gil˘ au Mountains, the central and southern parts of Bihor Mountains, the
northern half of Vl˘ adeasa Massif, the Plopis , Mountains almost entirely, most of
the Zarand Mountains, the eastern periphery of Trasc˘ aului Mountains, the central
ridge of Mese¸ s Mountains, etc.;
– intrusive rocks (granite, dacite, granodiorite, etc.) are found in the western half
of Metaliferi Mountains and the central platoon of their eastern half. Large areas
are also found on the southern half (the Iadei Mountains) and the Eastern part of
Vl˘ adeasa Massif. Smaller spots can be identified in the extreme north of Bihor
