13.4.3 Optimal Solution
The optimal solution in achieving the objective is to build water sources in the areas
with a major risk of fires, deriving from the existing lakes. To this purpose, wooden
roads will be built, as well as the protection of the banks and that of the lake basin,
by putting up flexible geogrids to protect the banks from the variations of the water
levels but also by fixating the alluvial material and impeding it from being sucked in
by the pumps that extract the water.
The lakes defined as water sources intended for the fire extinction will be analyzed
from the point of view of their depth and of the level variations, but also from
the point of view of accessibility by road, as well as their position in regard to
the areas with greater fire risk. The corresponding pumps and power generators
will be mobile, and thus they will be towed by ATVs to the areas affected by the
fire. Thus, the necessary logistic support will be ensured with a minimum effect
on the environment. A minimal arrangement of natural materials (wood, stone) that
are not polluting and which visually fall into the landscape, without altering the
landscapes or the environment, can be achieved. The volume curves of the water
accumulations (basins, enclosures) will be made in advance and the minimum levels
of water exploitation will be indicated (Fig. 13.14).
