• Surface resources—6800 million m

• Underground resources—1068 million m

These resources are usable, on average per year—2655 million m

• Surface resources—1955 million m

• Underground resources—700 million m

The groundwater and the deepwater resources are located in the meadows of
the Siret, Suceava, Moldavia and Bistrita rivers. The groundwater is estimated at
approximately 28 m
3 /s from which 16.7 m
3 /s are balance sheet resources. In the Siret
River Basin there are 30 accumulations with a complex use, the volume of 1847.63
million m
3 . The surface water resources of the Siret River Basin include 2 natural
lakes. Their water is not used to meet water requirements. From an administrative
point of view, the Siret Hydrological Area occupies the entire Suceava County, almost
entirely Neamt, Bacau and Vrancea counties, and in part the counties of Botosani,
Iasi, Galati, Buzau, Covasna, Harghita, Bistrita Nasaud and Maramures representing
42,890 km
2 of Romania’s surface.
The Siret Water Basin Administration considers the following aspects:
(a) Conservation, development and protection of water resources, as well as ensuring the normal flow of water;
(b) Provides protection against pollution and changes in the characteristics of the
water resources, banks, beds and cuvettes;
(c) Follows and realizes the restoration of the quality of surface and underground
waters;
(d) Conservation and protection of aquatic ecosystems;
(e) The complex capitalization of water as an economic resource and the rational
and balanced distribution of this resource, while preserving and improving the
natural quality and productivity of the waters;
(f) Mitigation against floods and any other dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena.
11.6 Recommendations
In order to obtain as accurate data as possible it is necessary to multiply the number
of the observation points, such as:
– The hydrometric stations on the rivers, in order to observe much more in detail
the fluctuations of the level on the rivers, the air and water temperature, and the
alluvial deposits.
– The evaporimetric stations both on the ground and on the lake, but also the use
of automated equipment series (automatic stations with temperature, humidity,
evaporation and radiation sensors).
