– extending the existing centralized drinking water supply system;
– permanently increasing the quality of water and services;
– finding new investment financing sources;
– integrating environmental and quality management systems;
– improving operational and financial performances;
– avoiding an uncontrolled increase in the drinking water price;
– reducing consumptions and network water losses;
– increasing the use of information technology/automation systems;
– permanently improving customer relations;
– decreasing the duration of repairs;
– increasing the reaction speed to emergencies and complaints;
– permanently improving employees’ skills;
– complying with the European standards concerning the environment.
The future will bring new specialized technologies such as the Water Management
Suite (WMS), by integrating and connecting to complex databases several applications like GIS, SCADA, Maintenance Management Systems, Laboratory Information Management Systems, etc. The Smart City concept with “intelligent” pipes and
valves is also very promising.
However, despite all the progress in technology, the danger of a drinking water
crisis is lurking before us. Therefore the most important message to pass to the future
generations is “Please cherish water, don’t waste it!”
