The Medgidia Source, located along the left bank of the Black Sea Danube Canal,
consists of 11 wells, out of which five are in operation, with depths between 350 and
450 m. The layout of the system, represented in Fig. 5.4 follows the recommendation
for water supply systems [15]. The abstracted flow rate is 1500 m
3 /h. The wells are
equipped with submersible pumps, with flow rates between 180 and 300 m
3 /h, and
pumping heads between 75 and 90 mwc. The water is conveyed through a duct of
1200 mm in diameter to the Constanta South storage facility and pumping station,
via the Eforie Nord complex. At present, the Dn 1200 duct is no longer functional
after a series of damages.
The surface water source Galesu is located on the Poarta Alba—Midia Navodari
Canal, branch of the Danube-Black Sea Canal. Its layout might be seen in Fig. 5.5.
