On the Romanian territory, the aquifer discharges to the Black Sea, and also to
the Lake Siutghiol. The water flow direction is from South to North, with West-toEast inflection, close to the city of Constanta and the water quality is appropriate for
drinking.
There are references to other sources of the groundwater, namely a component of
the Danube, in the Ostrov-Cernavoda area, but also the irrigation works contribute
[19].
Nevertheless, water can be found a few tens or a few hundred meters deep in a
particular perimeter, in Dobrogea.
The aquifer fed by the Prebalkanic Plateau waters has one of the essential discharges in the Siutghiol Lake, a source of drinking water that has been used since
ancient times.
