2 Agenda Followed in Village
The stay in the village was about 15 days. There were various programs conducted
in the village for the active participation of the villagers. The list of programs conducted was awareness camping, sanitation awareness, health and hygiene, awareness regarding Swachh fuel, solid waste segregation and disposal, movie screening,
walkathon, help panchayats draw up plans for installation of biogas plants wherever
possible/required, door-to-door meetings for survey purpose, etc.
3 Solid Waste Management-Related Activities
The awareness was given to the public in practical explanation. The village people
were gathered in a common place and given practical example in using three bins
and some wastes. Then, the wastes were mixed up and conducted small games for
the kids like putting the correct waste in correct bin and encouraged them with small
gifts for their participation. Then for the grown-up, we have explained the importance
of managing the solid wastes with a few videos. For ladies in that village, we have
used charts and explained how the separation of wastes at the domestic level will be
very useful in managing the solid wastes. The solid waste collection was explained
and method of transforming that waste to wealth also explained. The first day we
have given them the idea of segregation, and then on the next day, it was explained
what to do with the collected waste. The green bin is used for the disposal of kitchen
waste and other biodegradable wastes. These wastes then can be used as manure and
lot of the village people have cows and goats in their houses, and we have just given
them idea in disposing of dung in proper method and also an idea in the production of
methane gas. These are ways we used in the villages to make them proper disposing
of wastes.
4 Organizing Movie Screening
The village people were gathered in a common place and screened movies on various topics like deforestation, problems to be faced in open defecation, solid waste
management, etc. Laptops and speakers were used for movie screening. This method
is one of the easiest ways of putting knowledge in them (Ramesh 2019).
