Halophytic research in Afghanistan (1976) and Iran (1977) mainly focused on the
question of mineral ion uptake and expression of physiotypes in the various halophytic taxa. The main types (Henkel and Shakhov 1945; Walter 1961) were defined
according to salt uptake (Fig. 7), and their occurrence along salt gradients turned out
