And the fact that in Sweden for nearly a decade a new illness has been recognized

, environmental epidemiology
can be traced back to the writings of Hippocrates’ essay “On Airs, Waters and
Places”(460–370 BCE), which no doubt influenced Aristotle’s thinking about biology
29
. From the earliest Eastern ascetical dietary strictures, to twentieth-century
legislation like the 1938 US Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, and 1947
Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, there has been growing recognition of the Jain ethos of interdependencies. From the time of Leonardo (who
would have been familiar with translations by neo-Platonists in Florence of the
vegetarian writings of Porphyry, Theophrastus, Plutarch, and the Peripatos) to the
earliest English anti-vivisectionists, dozens of major figures had weighed in on the
importance to human health of vegetarianism, reiterating ancient Jain, Brahmanical,
and Essene credos.
The nature of environmental stress on human and other life-forms has been of
obvious and paramount importance to evolutionary studies. In 2005, Rudolf
Bijlsma  and Volker Loeschcke concluded their assessment of future ecological
stress “resistance and adaptation” research at is involves evolutionary pressures.
Their list of priority areas of research centered around “…selection lines…genetic
correlations and trade‐offs…the role of genotype‐by‐environment interactions…
candidate gene approach…[and] revealed variation in candidate genes in natural
populations...”

.
In 2018, it had become clear to Bijlsma and Loeschcke that “inbreeding depression” had become one of the major points of critical focus for “population persistence” and for the future of biodiversity in general
