8.9 Conclusion and Prospects
While endophytes have been known for more than a century, they only recently found
their way to applied research. Present applications include diverse fields including
agriculture, medicine, industry, pharmacology, bio, and phytoremediation. It has
been proven that endophytes could be more reliable and low-cost sources of natural
drugs than chemical compounds because of their intimate associations with plants and
their non-harmful effects on the environment. In the prospects, it is essential to understand the mechanisms interfering in plant–endophytes and endophyte–endophyte
