In addition, accumulation and efflux assays can be used to
quantify and compare EtBr transport activity between mycobacterial strains (e.g., clinical isolates or mutants impaired in efflux or
permeability). For example, Fig. 4 (adapted from Ref. 25) presents
efflux of EtBr in two M. bovis BCG strains: M. bovis BCG (wildtype) and BCG-INH
R (an BCG derivative resistant to isoniazid by
the activity of efflux pumps). The BCG-INH
R strain showed an
increased efflux of EtBr (evidenced by a faster decrease in
