Durgarajapatnam port — Breakwater stability
In order to test the stability of proposed design of breakwaters ut th<
newly anticipated harbour. physical model test were carried ont at the 2 m
shallow flume facility at the Department of Océan Engineering, HT Madras.
A model scale of 1 in 24.66 was adopted for the undistorted two-dimensional
stability study of the trunk section. Figure 9.4 shows the prototype breakwater cross section and Fig. 9.5 shows the model breakwater cross-section.
Table 9.2 gives the details of scaled down unit weights of each layer comprising the breakwater. Table 9.3 gives the details of scaled down wave
characteristics for varions loading conditions. Photo 9.2 depicts the model
section positioned inside the flume.
Stability tests are performed by subjecting the model to random waves
of 1000 numbers the time sériés of which corresponds to P-M spectrum and
the results of these tests are given in Table 9.4 as prescribed by the Coastal
Engineering Manual.
