Submerged offshore breakwaters function as dissipaters reducing the
incident wave energy and the waves undergo diffraction. If planned for, it
can also potentially bring down overtopping and run-up on Coastal structures. The submerged structure facilitâtes prématuré breaking for certain
wave characteristics. A comparison of Coastal process in the presence and
absence of submerged breakwaters is illustrated in Fig. 4.5(d).
