The gigantic Bold Tern is chartered for the installation of 80 Siemens turbines until mid-June 2015. As thejack-up installation
vessel from Norway costs the équivalent of a single-family house
every day, the budget would take a severe hit if any further days
were needed. "The risk of bad weather is ours", says Sébastian
Schüfâler as he outlines the distribution of rôles. As the Work
Package Manager for wind turbines, it is his rôle to expedite the
installation together with the manufacturer Siemens.
"We are in touch with Siemens every day. That means with colleagues in their facilities in Hamburg, Brande, Rodekro and Aalborg", informs Schüfëler. He does not conceal the fact that the
mentality prevailing in the global coopération from Erlangen is
somewhat different to that found in the ranks of wpd offshore
solutions. Siemens employées are focused on fixed processes
and are not always able to respond flexibly to changes. "It is
completely conceivable, for example, that Siemens might hâve
a problem if too much seagull droppings collect on a transition
piece", says Schùfêler, capturing their mindset in a nutshell; after
studying geography, business administration and law, Schùfêler
joined wpd in 2009. Every phase of the installation is therefore characterised by the fine line between the faultless
execution of individual work processes and tight timeframes
which always hâve to be adhered to.
However, Hans-Christoph Brumberg will not be deterred in
spite of ail the challenges. He prefers to trust the big cross
in his 2015 diary which he has made on the pages for June.
For him and his young team in Havneby, this was always a
fixed point of reference that provided motivation. And rightly
so: in the end everything went well.
