Meanwhile, Hans-Christoph Brumberg, the installation manager
responsible for Butendiek, casts an eye over the incoming water:
"Sailing is my passion, but there is no time for it here." And his
sailing boat has remained docked since the summer of 2014 in
its home yard in Bremen. Certainly a wise decision as the wpd
employée has not once found the time since construction started
in the spring of 2014 to take a refreshing dip into the sea on the
nearby North Sea beach further south-westwards.
The installation phase demands the full attention of the 31 yearold. As the deputy Project Manager for the offshore wind farm, he
has a full-timejob that allows him little free time. "Ali the threads
in the construction phase corne together here on land", explains
the man with a degree in industrial engineering. "The processes cannot be controlled on a nine to five basis. They dépend on
many different factors, primarily the weather, and these change
day and night. Even if the weather forces us to take a break on
the construction site, there is always something to be done. The
Project never stands still."
dam, Visser & Smit, Fabricom and Siemens, run through the current activities. There is direct téléphoné contact with those responsible on the installation vessels and on further vessels on the
construction site, which is around 50 kilométrés from Havneby.
The working language is English. The représentative from Ballast
Nedam is the first to report on this stormy August day, and he
describes the situation succinctly. "There is still no good weather
forecast", he says. "Nevertheless the installation vessel Tiger will
probably leave the harbour of Cuxhaven, still waiting for better
weather. Tomorrow we know a little bit more", he adds.
The other participants nod. The situation is similar with the work
for which they are responsible. "Walt". Then some of the events
that occurred on the previous day are analysed, the transport situation for components yet to be installed discussed and some
of the upcoming deadlines in the next few days checked. After 35
minutes, the daily conférence cornes to an end. "Today there are
no spécial events.
THERE IS NO HOLIOAY FEELING, THEREFORE, ON THIS DANISH HOLIDAY ISLAND, BUT THERE IS "a VERY SPECIAL BUTENDIEK
TEAM SPIRIT . Hans-Christoph Brumberg
This is noticeable when the obligatory meeting takes place by
conférence call every day in the early afternoon in the conférence
room on the second floor. A large magnetic board has been set
up in front of the wall on which red, green and yellow markers
show the status of the construction work: how many monopiles
hâve already been driven, how many transition pièces hâve already been installed and how many towers or nacelles hâve been
assembled. The participants in the conférence call, this time four
members of the wpd crew as well as colleagues from Ballast NeWe are on schedule even if a major storm has blown up since yesterday after weeks of fine weather, and work has been suspended", explains Brumberg after the short meeting. The installation
phase of Butendiek is still on schedule. That is the reason why at
this point he is sure that the last day of construction in the early
summer of 2015, a date that has been highlighted in his diary for
a long time, will also be met.
