A few supply vessels and some dilapidated trawlers are tied up
and there are aise a few yachts in the harbour. A few holidaymakers are strolling along the harbour's edge which is
surrounded by functional buildings. Shrimps are processed in
one of these buildings, and another houses the office of the wpd
team that is managing the installation of the Butendiek offshore
wind farm. The Butendiek logo is placed modestly on the front of
the functional-looking house.
Visitors to the meeting room on the second floor hâve a good
view of the activities in the East of the port, which has been expanded in the last few years. "First choice for business", says the
headline in the newly published harbour brochure lying on the
table. "The harbour basin has been deepened to seven métrés and we hâve over 410 métrés of guayside in an area of two
hectares", the brochure States.
As wpd offshore solutions has chosen Havneby as its service station for Butendiek, the port authorities look optimisticaIly into the
future, "The port will be busy for years with a wide variety of activities such as providing services and loading out components
for wind turbines." The harbour management of Romo's port has
indeed invested a lot of money in the past with EU support in
order to bring Havneby up to speed for offshore wind energy.
TODAY THERE ARE NO DOUBTS FOR ALL CONCERNEO:
BUTENDIEK IS BRINGING WORK AND EMPLOYMENT TO THE
SMALL TOWN WITH 287 INHABITANTS.
