PROBLEM 6.5
Make the following suggested changes to Computer code 6.5 while keeping
the rest of the data constant:
1. Change the friction coefficient to 0.01, 0.1 and 1.0. Run the simulations, and then compare and comment on your results.
2. Create an excitation of 0.5 m at point nx/4 and then at point 3nx/4.
Run the simulations, then compare the results. Also investigate the
scenario where a simultaneous excitation occurs at both of the aforementioned points.
3. Assume a water depth that varies linearly from 4 m at the ends of the
basin to 8 m at the centre. Then change the configuration, setting the
depth to 8 m at the ends and 4 m at the centre. Run the simulations
and comment on how the phenomenon is affected by the change in
the shape of the bed.
4. Change the number of spatial steps to nx = 250 and 500. Run the
simulations, then comment on the results.
5. Place a submerged breakwater of 1 m height at the midsection of the
basin. Conduct the simulation and compare the results at the same
point without the breakwater.
