Biomarkers
Table 2 showed a lower representacion of monounsaturated fatty acids.
The quite unusual 7-methyl-6-hexadecanoic acid (7-Me-Δ6-l6:l) was
identified in all neutral lipid fractions (4.7% in the triglyceride fraction). The mass spectrum of its pyrrolidide derivative showed a molecular ion at m/z 321, indicating a 17:1 structure. Difference of 12 amu
between fragmentation ions at m/z 154 and 166 indicated Δ6 insaturation. The absence of peak at m/z 182, which was flanked by two high
peaks at m/z 166 (C6) and 194 (C8), indicated the presence of a methyl
branch at C7.
Three isomers of hexadecanoic acid were also characterized, respectively 5-16:1, 6-1 6:1 and 8-16:1.
