A. SARAGEA E?' AI..
On cystine tellurite-blood agar : minute greyish black colonies, developing very late. Their appearance is either intermedius-like with a depressed
centre (Fig. 34) or gracis-like with minute, daisy headed colonies with
crenated margins (Fig. 35).
On blood agar: very small, pearl-greyish colonies with a silvery white
surface.
On Tinsdale plates: greyish minute colonies, only the underlying agar
being light brown.
4. Enzymes
Carbohydrate fermentation : glucose and levulose are attacked slowly,
positive reactions occurring only within 2-3 days. Cystinase : weak producer
only in the aerobic portion of a stab. Urea is not hydrolysed.
5. Antigenic structure
polyvalent agglutinating sera.
6. Pathogenicity
Not well known. The organism could be agglutinable by diphtherial
Non-pathogenic for animals. Toxins not produced. It is presumed to be
Fir;, 34, Variant with dwarf colonies: intermedius-like on CTBA plates.
