At the beginning of this lecture. 1 did confess that I was able only to
describe rhc landscape as seen from my own window: 1 am afraid that the
picture mads from this narrow vantage point was not clear enough to show
the vivid colors, which could carry to you the sense of youthful enthusiasm,
typical of the people working in the field of turbulence, in those old days of
1920- 1945.
