Description :
After the _independence of Algeria, in 1962, the country had only one set of about ten
medium capacity dams. Since then, «% pieces of work were lled with water and, based
,
on ongoing projects, 72 dams shall be developed in 2009, thus making supercial water
resources national mobilization capacity increase to 7.8 billion cubic meters.
In addition to that, 33 large water transfer and conveyance systems that enable
optimizing the use of these resources and ensuring greater exibility in the time and
space management of national water reserves.

Thus, major achievements of large hydraulic infrastructures were made during the last
ve—year plan (2005—2009). Among these large pieces of work, one can quote: ‘

interconnection of five dams that allows the improvement in drinking water of four
million inhabitants living on the territory of six wilayas (provinces) and the irrigation

name since March 2008, 250 000 cubic meters of drinking water per day to supply the
