This volume contains three articles on widely different subjects. The first is a reprint of a paper published by the food and agriculture organisation which has been modified for a scientific audience. Conservation is one of the ultimate aims of marine biological research and all marine biologists should be aware of the problems and of the international organisations concerned with the rational exploitation of the sea.
The second article is on the ecology of mangrove swamps and forests which fringe extensive coast lines in the indo-west-Pacific region. It is, surprisingly, the first full review of this subject, and includes a very complete bibliography and many illustrations. It should be of unusual interest to ecologists, both terrestrial and marine, to botanists and to zoologists. The final article concerns the biology of chaetognaths, concentrating particularly on their reproduction. It should prove of great value to plankton specialists, as well as containing much of general interest to morphologists.
