CLASSIFICATION OF THE MONOGENEA
Generic diagnosis of the genus Cichlidogyrus Paperna, 1960
(Dactylogyridae, Ancyrocephalinae)
With 3-5 pairs of head organs. Opisthohaptor narrowly constricted off, with two pairs of
anchors and 14 marginal hooklets; there are two supporting bars, one of which is V-shaped
and in most cases has a number of small tooth-like projections on the inner margin ; the other
bar consists of three articulated pieces, the central piece is slightly bent, and the other two
pieces are attached to the central in such a way that their points of attachment divide the bar in
three almost equal parts. Cement glands strongly developed at posterior end of body proper.
Intestinal limbs simple, united posteriorly. Testes postequatorial, largely or entirely
overlapping ovary. Vas deferens crossing seminal vesicle dorsally, not looping around
intestinal limb; vesicula seminalis formed by dilatation of vas deferens. Two groups of
prostatic glands present. Cirrus with accessory piece. Male genital pore separate from uterine
pore, submedian, postbifurcal.
Ovary pre-or paratesticular. Uterus short, opening close to male pore at or behind intestinal
bifurcation. Vitellaria extending in lateral fields from level of pharynx or from a short distance behind it to base of cement glands. Vagina single, opening sub-medianly or sublaterally
at level of anterior end of ovary, receptaculum seminis voluminous, opposite vaginal pore.
Parasitic on cichlid fishes.

C. arthracanthus Paperna, 1960 (PL 8, Fig. 73), on Tilapia zillii, Tristramella simonis and T.
sacra; Sea of Gallilee, Israël.
