Abstract
like the world marine resource, the Algerian marine resource is under a certain number of
pressures which make it more and more vulnerable. pressure from fishing, in this case,
recreational fishing, often perceived as harmless; macro-waste, which is more and more
present in the marine environment and climate change, are threats that are exerted
simultaneously on the same resource and are the subject of numerous studies on a global
scale. At the national level, information about them is missing or completely absent. this
thesis deals with the effects that these three pressures can exert on the Algerian marine
resource. the regulatory aspect is then analyzed in order to provide solutions and propositions
At the FAO level, data on Algerian recreational fishing is lacking, this fishing is often
considered to have no impact on the country's resource and economy. Based on the daily
catch data, at a port in western Algeria, it turned out that some vessels operating as
professionals were in reality recreational ones. Based on the number of authorizations
nationally delivered, recreational fishing and spear-fishing catch valuation is estimated at over
4,700 tonnes which is in direct competition with the artisanal commercial sector which reach
commercial markets each year. This practice exerts additional pressure on an already
declining resource and generates a profit per fisherman of 2,146,100 DA / year and a loss in
the government rent estimated at 821,574,000 DA between 2011 and 2015. Insufficient and
failing regulations which allows the sanction only in case of sale without any other restriction
as well as an insufficient control are implicated to explain this unfair competition between the
commercial and recreational sector.
During the ALDEM demersal stock assessment campaigns performed by the
CNRDPA during three years ( from 2013 to 2015), the marine litter brought up in the trawl is
sorted by material and counted. the results show that the waste consists mainly of plastic
bottles and bags and is concentrated in the upper strata (between 20 and 200 m) in front of the
mouths of the wadis. this proves that the origin of macro-waste on the Algerian coast is
mainly terrestrial. the main accused is without contest the poor management of municipal
waste. The bay of Algiers (opposite the mouth of wadi el Harrach) has the highest values with
more than 3662 waste / km
2 , El Kala has the lowest values with 37 waste / km
2 , which means
that the two regions Algiers-Tipaza and El Tarf-Annaba represent the most polluted area and
the cleanest area on the Algerian side respectively. The comparison between these two zones
shows that macro-waste negatively influences the presence soft bottom benthic and demersal
